Nicola Albery

Nicola is an accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over 14 years’ experience support clients presenting in both acute and chronic phases of their mental illness. She has experience with a wide range of presentations including anxiety, depression, perinatal mental health conditions, chronic pain, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder and drug and alcohol dependence.

She has worked both in both clinical and community settings as a therapist, recovery clinician and psychiatric triage specialist. Nicola uses a client-centered approach and utilises a range of engaging and age-appropriate therapeutic frameworks when working with clients.

Nicola also has a special interest in supporting primary school-aged children and their families with mental health concerns, using age-appropriate, play and art-based therapeutic interventions.

Nicola strives to offer a warm, empathic approach as a therapist, as she knows it can be difficult to make the step to see someone. She is non-judgmental and down-to-earth. Her main goal is to assist people to feel at ease, to feel understood and make sense of their issues. She draws on her skills in motivating change to help people towards their goals. She has a practical and eclectic approach to therapy and will conduct a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment to determine which stream of care best suits her client’s needs.

In her personal life, Nicola enjoys a coastal lifestyle and participates in a range of outdoor activities including bike riding and swimming with her family, playing golf and weekend camping getaways. She also loves animals and enjoys long walks with her family dogs.
